My current hair products and tool for my thin straight hair. My hair is flat and gets oily quickly. And recently, the ends of my hair have been drier. I need volume, hydration at the ends, and dry shampoo at the roots. So if your hair is similar to mine, maybe you’ll find some good options for you too!

Shampoo and Conditioner

I have been putting the Function of Beauty Shampoo and Conditioner for Straight Hair to the test. Influenster and Function of Beauty sent me a few goodies to try in exchange for my honest opinion and I really like them! My hair feels very clean and soft. I was able to go day 2 with no dry shampoo, which is huge for me! The conditioner is hydrating without being too heavy or greasy. These are customizable hair products too so you can add boosts to them depending on your needs! I added volumize, deep condition, and strengthen but there are 10 different boosts and different base shampoos and conditioners depending on your hair type (straight, wavy, curly, or coily). For custom bottles, you can go to their website here and take the quiz.

Masks and Scrubs

The ends of my hair were getting dry with the winter weather so I added the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque once a week. It is very hydrating so I use just a tiny bit and only on the ends or else it weighs down my hair (it says it is best for thick, curly, coarse, textured hair). So a tiny bit works well for my thin hair!

At least once a week, I use the Love, Beauty, and Planet Detox Charcoal Shampoo Scrub (*update: this product has been discontinued and I have not found a replacement). It detoxifies and gives a deep cooling clean using charcoal, naturally derived menthol, and coconut husk. I wash with shampoo, use the scrub, apply the hydration mask, and follow up with conditioner. It leaves my scalp feeling clean!

Wet Hair

I use a wide-tooth comb – Kristen Ess Wide Tooth Detangling Comb – to brush through my hair when wet.

I apply a 3/4 of the dropper of the Divi Scalp Serum to my scalp. It is “infused with a powerful blend of multiple amino acids and peptides to detox follicle buildup, support thicker hair, and encourage overall scalp health.” This has helped new hairs grow in sparse areas from postpartum hair loss and helps detoxify product build-up.

The Briogeo Farewell Frizz Rosarco Milk Leave-in Conditioner is formulated with rosehip, argan, and coconut oils. It is a great product to minimize frizz, smooth hair, add shine, hydrate, and detangle. It’s great for all hair types – straight, wavy, curly, fine, medium, or thick.

The Function of Beauty Straight Hair Leave-in Milk Mist Base is made specifically for straight hair and hydrates, enhances shine, moisturizes, and softens the hair. You can add up to three boosters in this as well! They do have a leave-in conditioner for wavy, curly, and coily hair textures as well.

For volume at the roots, I’ve been using the Monat Root Lifter. I apply this prior to blow drying my hair and it really helps add volume to my roots! My husband and I have used a few of their products previously. This is the only one I currently use.

Styling tools

I truly love my Revlon One-Step Volumizer Hair Dryer Brush. It has cut down my time on blow drying my hair and gives my flat hair some extra volume. I have a how-to post you can check out to see how I achieve that.

I’ve been using the same Conair Curling Iron FOREVER. I can’t even tell you when I bought it! But it works and works well! Gimme Beauty sent me their new cordless curling iron and I’m testing that out currently.

Styled Hair

Once I’ve curled my hair, I use the Kristen Ess Texture Spray to add volume and create lived-in, textured waves. It’s great for all hair types, is cruelty free, color + keratin safe, free of sulfates, parabens, phthalates, and silicones.

I also really like the Living Proof Full Dry Volume Blast. It gives instant, long-lasting volume and texture for fine hair, it does lightly absorb oil to extend the life of your look – which is great!

For hairspray, I really like the Living Proof Flex Hairspray because it leaves my hair flexible. I can run my hands through it and it still holds! And when I need a good hold, I grab the good ol’ Tresemme Tres Two Ultra Fine Mist Hairspray. The smell always reminds me of cheer competition days!

Refresh Hair

I have been trying many dry shampoos to find the ones I like best and so far my go-to’s right now are the Gimme Beauty’s Dry Shampoo and Just Ingredients Dry Shampoo.

Gimme Beauty Dry Shampoo is easy to use and has a few different scents that help in different ways. You can read more here about the different benefits! It works really well, I personally have found it works best over time so applying it at night works best for your hair to be fresh in the morning!

The Just Ingredients Dry Shampoo is one of my favorites because its clean and lasts forever. It is a powder (organic arrowroot powder and baking soda) and soaks up the oils super quickly. It also gives amazing volume. I’ll give it a quick blowdry with my Revlon brush and call it a day!

Both of these are made in the USA too!

Clips and Extras

My all-time favorite hair ties are by Gimme Beauty. They don’t pull my hair or cause breakage. Depending on hair type, they have different thickness of bands too! I use the Any Fit ones.

I also have the Satin-Soft Sleep Scrunchies and use that to put my hair up at night. No pulling and no dents in the morning.

I use the Kristen Ess Do-It-All Sectioning Clips or these little claw clips to separate the hair.

Also just found my absolute favorite claw clip EVER. It clicks into place and holds all of my hair up so well.

That’s it! Hope this helps you find some good products for your hair too.
