All my life, I’ve lived with flat hair and longed for voluminous hair. A lot of research, trial and error, and I have learned a few tricks to adding volume to my hair.
Root Lifter
This was a game changer for me! The one I first tried was Monat Reshape Root Lifter. I apply this prior to blow drying my hair and it really helps add volume to your roots. If you are trying to use cleaner products, this one by Monat is a really great one! My husband and I have used several of their products.
I have tried two other products similar to this but Monat’s is my favorite so far. I’ve tried John Frieda Blow Out Spray and I’ve used one by OGX but can’t remember what I used, this Root Booster might have been it. I felt like this one made my hair more stiff at the roots since it’s a mousse.
Monat has a referral program so if you would like to try their products, here is my referral link for $20 towards your first purchase as a VIP.
Blow Dry Technique
Try blow drying your hair upside down! This will dry the hair upwards giving you more volume when you flip your hair back upright. Once you finish drying your hair, put the cool heat setting on and focus it on the roots. It will help cool your roots down to keep the volume rather than flipping upright and your hair cooling and going flat. I have done this technique for years and it really has helped add volume to my roots!
My newest favorite tool is the Revlon Blow Dryer Brush. It’s AMAZING. In 10-15 minutes, I have dried, voluminous, straight hair. As a mom of two, I appreciate anything that cuts down on time! I use the low setting on this too. I feel the high is too high for thin hair but if you have thicker hair, the high setting should work great for you.
Finishing Touches
I also add in a texture spray and hair spray to keep my hair in place. I’m currently using the Kirsten Ess Dry Finish Texture Spray and love that it gives some volume also. ?I’ll lift up my hair in layers and spray underneath. I’ll run my fingers through and finish with a bit of hairspray to make my hair stay. I’m currently using the TRESemme Tres Two Ultra Fine Mist Hairspray. I like that this holds but has the finer mist so it doesn’t come out too tacky.
Shampoo and Conditioner
Also look at what shampoo and conditioner you’re using. Once I started using products geared towards thinner hair, I noticed a difference in my hair too. I love Olaplex Shampoo and Conditioner and I recently started using Love, Beauty, and Planet Shampoo and Conditioner as well as the Detox Charcoal Shampoo. So make sure you are using products that will not weigh down your hair more.
I hope these tips help you add volume to you hair. I’m always changing things up to see what works best to keep my hair voluminous but these steps have been working great for me. Do you have any other tips? Let me know in the comments!
